When you’re enjoying a day out on the boat, sometimes it’s a hassle to get back home, get in the car, and drive to a restaurant for dinner — which is why it’s such a relief to know the greater Annapolis area has plenty of dock-and-dine options!
And why wouldn’t it? With more than 500 miles of shoreline in Anne Arundel County and more than 400 miles of shoreline in Queen Anne’s County just across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, many residents would prefer to get around by boat than by car in the summertime.
It’s always a great experience to enjoy a long day out on the water, pull up to a favorite restaurant to enjoy happy-hour or dinner, then enjoy a sunset trip back home along the water.
For those who have never done dock-and-dine before, it’s important to keep a few things in mind. Many restaurants offer their slips either by reservation or on a first-come-first-served basis, so it never hurts to call ahead and find out what their availability is. It’s also important to observe all dress codes, as the attire you’re wearing for a day of boating might not always be what’s appropriate. For many restaurants, flip flops, bathing suits, and T-shirts might be acceptable; for others, proper attire will be required. Check ahead of time to see whether dogs are allowed on the dining deck (if you’re not actually going inside, you might be able to bring Fido along).
Finally, don’t forget to be careful about drinking and boating. Many of these restaurants have fun, laid-back atmospheres and irresistible drink menus, but you don’t want to overdo it and have an accident out on the water while you’re returning home.
